Beat The Bug Part 5: Recipes

In the last post we talked about how Vitamin C is very helpful to our bodies when we fight infections. As we mentioned, citrus fruits like lemons and oranges aren't the only foods with Vitamin C in them. So we are going to share a few recipes for some delicious Vitamin C packed smoothies that will give you the boost you need to get well and stay well. 

1. Very Berry Kiwi Smoothie (makes 1 serving)

Ingredients: 

  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 3/4 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 2 kiwi fruit
  • 1 cup OJ
  • dash of chia, flax, or hemp seeds (optional)
  • vanilla protein powder (optional)

Directions:

  1. Add ingredients to a blender or a Nutribullet
  2. If using Nutribullet, only add enough OJ to the fill line.
  3. Blend up and enjoy! 

2. Tropical Detox Smoothie (makes 2 servings)

  • 1 cup of mango chunks (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup of pineapple chunks (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut water
  • 1/4 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup kale leaves w/o ribs
  • dash of chia, flax, or hemp seeds (optional)
  • vanilla protein powder (optional)

Directions: 

  1. Add kale leaves first, then fruit and seeds (add ice if using fresh fruit)
  2. Add coconut water. If using Nutribullet, only add enough to the fill line.
  3. Blend it up and enjoy!

3. Cold Buster Orange Smoothie

Ingredients: (makes 1 serving)

  • 1 orange (large preferred)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup mango chunks (frozen preferred)
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 vanilla extract
  • dash of chia, flax, or hemp seeds (optional)
  • protein powder (optional)

Directions:

  1. Add fruit and seeds to blender. Add ice if using fresh fruit.
  2. Add almond milk. If using Nutribullet, only add enough to the fill line.
  3. Blend up and enjoy ! 

 

And there you have it folks! There's 3 delicious and nutritious smoothies that are extremely easy to make. I recommend multiplying the ingredients out to make a 3-day or 5-day supply of smoothies. That way you can just grab it and go whenever you need a little pick-me-up. With this being said, we are almost finished with our beat the bug series. We just have a few concluding points to end with which will be included in our next post.
