Jessie K's Way: The Mind's Role

Jessie K's Way: The Mind's Role

The mind is a very complex network of thoughts, feelings, perception, language and other things. Today, we are just going to focus on the power of belief and its effect on wellness.

The mind and ailments of the mind are directly linked to our bodies. Different emotions can weaken various organ systems. For example, anxiety weakens the stomach and digestive system. Anger affects the gallbladder and liver. Fear can impact the kidneys and bladder. If this is the case with negative emotions, it is only fair to think that positive thoughts can reverse those effects.

This is where it gets interesting. Imagine, if we are able to inflict illnesses upon ourselves due to our weakened mental state, could not a change our mental state result in a cure for our ailments? That topic is up for discussion at a later date. However, this is where the power of belief comes to play.

If we have the ability to believe we are sick and actually begin feeling physically sick, we also have the ability to believe we are well and feel better. Likewise, if we believe that we CAN make healthier choices, we WILL do it. As long as we have that feeling of uncertainty or disbelief, we will continue to be our own biggest roadblock on the journey to wellness. So what does it take to convince yourself that you CAN improve your health one day at a time?

Jessie K's Way: The Mind's Conviction

The Mind's Conviction

No, we are not talking about throwing your mind behind bars so you can stop eating bacon cheeseburgers. Instead, we are talking about conviction in the sense of a firmly held opinion or belief. Right now, your mind already has convictions that you believe in. Whether they were taught to you or if they are personal preferences, those convictions dictate many decisions that you make on a day to day basis.

Even though these convictions are strongly held beliefs, they can always be changed at the will of the owner. Therefore the first step on the journey to wellness is to have "the want". You have to desire a change and then firmly believe that you CAN do it. This doesn't always come easily for everyone. Many people, myself included, need to have things laid out in a organized way. Perhaps even a step-by-step guide to walk you through everything you need to know.

For the time being, we do not have such a guide compiled--though it would be nice in the long run. At present, we just have knowledge through research, trial and error that we would like to share. Things that have worked and things that miserably failed. Now, in order to either create or change a conviction in your mind, you have to set a goal.

Jessie K's Way: Setting Goals

Setting Goals

As mentioned in one of our previous posts, setting goals are vital to change your mind's conviction. However, it is important that the you set goals are realistic and attainable. Many times people fail to achieve their goals because they set the bar too high. They often become discouraged and give up on their goals all together.

Instead of trying to reshape your lifestyle all at once, it is easier to set simple goals that will become habitual over time. The next few posts will contain easy goals that you can begin working on today. We will explain the various benefits associated with each goal as well. And while they may seem like baby steps, the point is they are still steps in the right direction.
